A description of the remains of some 10th Century buildings excavated at York. A good description of Norse-era building techniques, but the most interesting bit to me is the description of a box similar to those sold as "Shaker Boxes" (thin bentwood sides around a solid lid and bottom).

An important new work in the "Archaeology of York" Series, Carole Morris' new book surveys the wide variety of wooden artifacts recovered in 20+ years of digs in York. There is also a small section covering the woodworking tools found, but sadly these are limited to spoon bits and a few chisels and turning tools.
